Pregnancy Discrimination

Pregnancy discrimination

Everywhere people discriminate in one way or the other. It may be based on age, health condition, status, sex, child birth, pregnancy etc. mainly in this article we are going to deal with discrimination related to pregnancy.

An employer must not avoid women from appointing her as an employee because she is on the family way. Pregnant employees definitely don’t have the same stamina to work as compared with the other normal employees. So they have to be given some relaxation in working hours. So these temporarily disabled women must not be forced to work for long hours. They should be permitted to work as protracted as they can do it without getting tired even though it will affect the free flow of work. The employer must find an alternative for doing the job, since a pregnant employee cannot finish her work on time.

Health insurance will cover all problems, but not pregnancy. At the time of delivery or in case of caesarian the expenses incurred usually will not be covered. So the insurance companies should launch a special scheme for pregnant employees to cover such expenses. All companies should make it a rule to help these temporarily disabled women. The health insurance scheme must include exact reimbursement of expenses made on pregnancy problems.

If work offices provide any benefit to normal employee, they should also give the same benefit to the pregnant employee. Apart from this after delivery they should be given leave with pay during their recovery period.
